I think that the un-sexy answer is just that it depends. My perspective is obviously shaped by my goals and my experiences, as is everyones’. I agree that there’s nothing wrong with using high level abstractions and then drilling down later, but I think my point is that you have to drill down at some point, otherwise you’ll be limiting your ability to fully grasp what’s going on. This article really just reflects what I wish I had been exposed to earlier: someone pushing me away from the trendy, high level tools and toward the sometimes less fun but incredibly important to learn fundamentals.
